……poems and music
Here are some poems that I’ve always loved (below)…… but there are so many…… They are both by Ella Wheeler Wilcox; a poet of the late 1800’s. She’s also the author of some other famous lines, such as: “laugh and world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone”, and “love lights more fires than hate extinguishes”.
I’ve also just released a SYD remake. (click the little pic to check it out). I’ve been told to tell you that we’re settling the PayPal issue by only offering our songs through cdbaby (so we’ll be moving many songs from bandcamp and different sites etc… over there. They give you the choice of using a credit card, OR PayPal OR check etc… We will also re-launch the Abbottshoppe as a safe place to use as well because it is directly managed by my office.
AND SOME NEWS….
I’ve been hesitant to commit- but it looks like we’ll be releasing an EP of new songs sometime around Thanksgiving__ish… I will keep you posted.
Here are the poems and Happy May to all.
P O E M S ……
…from “Winds of Fate”
One ship drives east and another drives west
With the selfsame winds that blow.
‘Tis the set of the sails,
And Not the gales,
That tell us the way to go.
Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate;
As we voyage along through life,
‘Tis the set of a soul
That decides its goal,
And not the calm or the strife.
and
A Song Of Life
In the rapture of life and of living,
I lift up my head and rejoice,
And I thank the great Giver for giving
The soul of my gladness a voice.
In the glow of the glorious weather,
In the sweet-scented, sensuous air,
My burdens seem light as a feather
They are nothing to bear.
In the strength and the glory of power,
In the pride and the pleasure of wealth
(For who dares dispute me my dower
Of talents and youth-time and health?) ,
I can laugh at the world and its sages
I am greater than seers who are sad,
For he is most wise in all ages
Who knows how to be glad.
I lift up my eyes to Apollo,
The god of the beautiful days,
And my spirit soars off like a swallow,
And is lost in the light of its rays.
Are you troubled and sad? I beseech you
Come out of the shadows of strife
Come out in the sun while I teach you
The secret of life.
Come out of the world – come above it
Up over its crosses and graves,
Though the green earth is fair and I love it,
We must love it as masters, not slaves.
Come up where the dust never rises
But only the perfume of flowers
And your life shall be glad with surprises
Of beautiful hours.
Come up where the rare golden wine is
Apollo distills in my sight,
And your life shall be happy as mine is,
And as full of delight.
Musically yours,
Gregory

Hi Gregory
Time surely flies..I came here the same day you posted “poems & music” to post most of my favorite celebrities who were born in April. But instead I read your poems & listen to the remix of SYD..and its just now I found the time to login again. I am still in Portugal..having some ‘me-time’ with my mother..and the way it looks, I might have to wait until I return to US & DR before I will have the time to come on over ..here again. So you “Do your thing” & I will check-in when I can.
Peace & Love to All

POEMS & MUSIC?
You are calling me by name Gregory. And I am here to answer. Love those 2 beautiful poems, and I never knew that the quote “Love lights more fires,,than hate extinguishers” was so ancient. You really went into the archives… Well,, Well,, I would like to quote you these words.. “Some people come into our lives as blessings and some come in our lives as lessons”. You my musical friend came with both of those attributes.
Thanks for staying true to yourself.

Hello Gregory Abbott
How are you? Thanks for sending my first email with your marvelous writings. Whether you write those songs or poems, they are marvelous coming from you. You who I have been listening to for over 27 years. I have read many stories about people saying they have a “Shake You Down” child or two. Well I can say the same. My #..is 4. One of them works @GanD Studios..aka G-HeadQuarters. And she has been telling me for sometime to sign your guest book, and tell my SYD stories. I have tried, but got cold-feet and delete my thoughts…I am too shy to tell such graphic information. After all, your significant other must be tired of all these fans, writing intimate stories to you. Yeah, I have read them all.
So, I will post a poem to you instead.
Were I with thee……Wild nights should be…..Our Luxury
Futile the winds…..To the heart in port
Done with the compass…..Done with the chart
Rowing in Eden!…..Ah!….the seat
Might I but moor…..Tonight in thee
Okay__G…..shy no more…now…i am free

Thank you for overcoming your shyness enough to share this beautiful poem.

Hi Mr Abbott
Over here @GanD..we took a long break and I was elected to read your poems to the staff. First, I was honored that my fellow employees think I could explicate poetry. After I finish both poems..Drew said..”look we are still awake” That was our “LOL” moment of the day. But I kinda lost them when I started to explain the literal & figurative analysis of the poems..And I totally lost them (except for Drew) when I started to use words like. simile, metaphor, sonnets. Underneath the surface of “A Song Of Life” I think its an extended metaphor that tells a sonnet of your life. A symbolic story to you.
Well, I hope you like what I wrote. I did American/English Literature in College, and its fair to say..I left the knowledge there. So today was very symbolic for me.
Thanks–G..
BTW: Tis the seasons for weddings and GanD is booked to the max..until August. We are unusually busy for April & May..so hang-in-there and your fans here will reply asap

Bon Jour
My daughter, texted & said there was an emergency email in my inbox from you. I am really laughing out loud at her & myself. I guess she wanted to get my attention..to read the poems you posted.. and view that beauty of a photo of yourself. I will have to wait until “tea-time’ to read the poems….but I will make time now to admire your face. Not sure if you know that one of my hobbies are Portrait Painting & Face Sketching (live). I am going to paint/sketch one of each using your photo Its a very good picture for me to work with. But my best work is from a face..in person.
Je te donne des signes ainsi je pourrais voir et sentir votre visage.
au revoir
