……a new year

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Whatever your faith… I wish you blessings.

Isn’t it wonderful that we are not all the same?

In celebration of the holidays, I just finished a brand new video!

Lets, talk about 2017, but first…. lets’s listen to a little more music shall we?

It’s been a tough year. We’ve had mass shootings, plane crashes, bombings, hurricanes, fires and to top it off we’ve lost so many notable people.Heres a link.

Of course as we get older this will unfortunately continue. We’ve had political turmoil and race problems……very tricky waters to navigate indeed. While I am not sure what 2018 will bring, I do know it will be a year of change.

My participation in all this is my music. To try and bring a respite…. a break…. sometimes nicely worded or sung, so as to nudge forward the togetherness I believe we are all after.

Remember, we have more in common than we don’t. I am hoping that in 2018 we highlight the importance of our universal values and generate a more productive dialogue of solidarity. Selfishness, greed, and ignorance are the major source of inequality, and I believe it is only as individuals that we can have hope for a better world where people are not suffering or neglected…. so I’m going to keep my head up. I hope that you will too.

Not wanting to be someone to leave you on a down note- remember, there’s GOOD stuff happening around the world. Here’s some examples:

Rising Global Literacy

The Ozone layer is repairing itself!

Chocolate…… that’s right, chocolate

Life expectancy has increased by 6 years since 1990

Teen pregnancies have hit record lows in the UK and US.

Public Libraries still exist!

On Harassment

I hate bullying of any kind whether it be sexual harassment, physical intimidation, body shaming, bigotry etc…. We are all on this planet together and we have to find a way to get along. I find the bond that happens between people around music cures a lot of social ills. I’ve seen it happen time and again, so I am ever more committed with each passing day to keep doing what I do.

If anybody has thoughts or suggestions that can help bring together people of different experiences… different beliefs….people of different cultures etc… please leave a post.

A word about impersonators, hackers and scammers.

It’s a crazy world right now. I am here… online, so that I can interact with fans and friends…. basically people that like my music. I figure it this way: if they like it enough, they buy a song download or a CD or a t-shirt (2018).  Perhaps they laugh at a joke or find strength in some of my lyrics or a quote. That’s what I’m about.

We just heard from a fan who was badly scammed by a person pretending to be me. This kind of thing disturbs me deeply.I urge you all to please be careful. I am not going to ask you out on a date or for your telephone number; so if you do get that request, know that it’s not me. And please…. send me a note earlier than later so that we can try and stop them in a timely fashion…

Just to clarify and for future reference, below are my ONLY official social media pages. I have no reason to open up new ones and don’t intend to. Also, the only legitimate emails are the ones coming from my office which end in gregoryabbott.com

Here are some quotes for this post:

No matter what kind of challenges or difficulties or painful situations you go through in your life, we all have something deep within us that allows us to reach down and find the inner strength to get through them. ALANA STEWART

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before… and more importantly, you’re doing something. NEIL GAIMAN

I am grateful for all of you. God Bless.

Musically yours, Gregory

……on and on

I’ve been on spiritual retreat. I needed this. Many aspects of today’s world are distressing. I’ve been told creative types have a hard time with these things anyway.

The battle continues however. I mean the battle for things like “the good, the ethical, the compassionate,  the fair. We must battle for us to stay happy and well in our day to day lives while some of the things we see happening around us test our beliefs.  This has come as a surprise to many of us, but these are the times we are living in. I think it was Frederick Douglass who said that without a struggle there can be no progress… so the struggle continues.

My heart goes out to so many. Puerto Rico, the several hurricanes in Houston, Florida and the Caribbean where my little sister Island of Barbuda was all but destroyed… Saint Martin… the fires in Napa… this list goes on…

While we struggle in our daily lives redefining friendships and keeping those we love even closer; I wanted to bring a bit of sunshine to you all. I am releasing a new single in a few weeks. It is a cover of the Steven Bishop song “On and On” I am posting it exclusively for you here as a pre-release until I release it on iTunes, cdbaby etc….

The only objection I’ve ever had with this song is the line “steal your money then they break your heart” when referring to pretty Jamaican women. That line never worked for me so I changed it.  You lovely ladies will always be the “cats meow” to me. #igotyourback

I think the song’s slight melancholy feel with the sweet, soft Caribbean groove that ends with the message to “keep on trying” is what I’ve been feeling as of late. How ’bout you? To use a boxing analogy: losing a few rounds in no way means you have lost the fight.

There is hope. There are people doing incredible things and continuing to try despite the state of the world. It is my belief that we ALL need to do SOMETHING… whether its donations for the less fortunate…. prayer… or just a random act of kindness so as to give others hope too.

I believe diversity is beautiful. Tolerance is mandatory. There is only one race and one planet and that planet is our home. Let’s put it in order.

……new single

Hello everyone. I hope that you are enjoying the summer. While I am still working on my EP which is coming along nicely and leaning toward a danceable Caribbean feel, I decided to dig into my magic box of musical goodies and this popped out.

It’s my interpretation of the Dionne Warwick classic written by Isaac Hayes called Deja Vu”.

Haven’t we all had the experience of feeling that something happening now has somehow happened before? Deja Vu is the french term for this phenomenon.

When it happens in the realm of love, it is luscious and sweet and welcomed with open arms….

The official release date is Friday, but I wanted to have this available for a few special folks. I hope you enjoy it. If you do, please drop me a note and let me know. I’d be thrilled if you felt inspired to like, share, tweet and repost to your friends etc….

In the meantime I will be taking some time off to go on spiritual retreat. but will check in to social media from time to time…

And, if you haven’t had a chance to have a #throwback moment and watch the “Prove It” Video here it is…. 🙂

Be well.

Stay Strong.

Keep the Faith.
